Will you try to survive?
7 Days Blood Moon is currently in early access on Steam and last December 5th, I met Sacha Dufour Jean, one of the technical 2D artists who worked on this game. We talked about the game, as well as his career path to iLLOGIKA. Sacha is a former colleague from GS1 Canada, so it was easy to talk with him about his journey to the video game industry.
The Interview
P: Your departure from GS1 Canada was brutal, but you quickly found a new job?
S: Before working at GS1, I had worked at Top Menu as a graphic designer, so I applied again and was offered the position of coordinator.
P: Didn’t you switch from Top Menu to iLLOGIKA?
S: No, not directly. Subsequently, I worked in infographics for LeadHouse for web solutions, then Jaymar for document and mockup design.
P: How did you manage to make the leap into the world of video games?
S: A friend got me a meeting for an interview at iLLOGIKA, I started as a UI artist and now I am a technical artist 2D.
P: We’re here to talk about 7 Days Blood Moon, so let’s talk about it.
S: I worked a little bit on the project, but it’s a game I believe in and the Road Map shows that there is still so much to come. Here, like today, there is the addition of the zombie Rodeo Clown, and he uses his guts as a lasso to catch a survivor.
P: There is a major distinction between 7 Days to Die from Fun Pimps and 7 Days Blood Moon developed by iLLOGIKA. For 7 Days Blood Moon, Fun Pimps is only the publisher and all game development is being done by your team.
S: Exactly, we even have a Discord server where players can make suggestions and according to the reaction of the community, developers look at the possibility of making additions that seem popular.
The Game
7 Days Blood Moon is a quick game. It is possible to play a game in a few minutes, because it is possible to join a lobby or create one yourself. In addition, it is possible to play a survivor or the master of zombies. But, don’t worry, if no one wants to be the master villain, it is possible to activate it in AI mode. The game is not yet in final version, I will not give it a rating, but I highly recommend it to you. For a very reasonable price on Steam and in addition, you will encourage a local studio. Not to mention that more players are present and they give more impressions on the content, this will help in the progression of it. There is currently a free demo of the game and if you reach level 4 you could get a key for the full version.
The Studio
iLLOGIKA, founded in 2009, is a multiplatform video game development studio with 65 professionals in Montreal. The studio has participated in many co-developments, including SpongeBob: Get Cooking, winner of the Netflix Best Game Award at the 2023 Pocket Gamer Awards, 7 Days Blood Moons from the universe of 7 Days to Die, Cuphead, Atari Mania and Lara Croft GO. iLLOGIKA is also working on an original 3D role-playing game, side view and turn-based, for PC and consoles.
