More than blocks
A Minecraft Movie, arrived at the cinema this Friday, April 4. The adaptation of the popular video game is trying to succeed where some have failed. We can also count on the presence of Jack Black to help.
Synopsis
Four individuals, each with real-world difficulties, find themselves in the fantasy world of Minecraft. A place where creativity is in the spotlight. There is one small problem, the nasty Malgosha wants to get the gold of the whole universe. In addition, she is ready to throw the world into a permanent night to achieve her ends. They will find Steve, a young man who has lived in this cubic world for some time, now creation expert in this world.
Big cast
Jason Mamoa and Jack Black are among the cast of this distribution, and it seems that both had great pleasure in making this film. Jack Black is Steve, a young man who always wanted to be a miner. Jason Mamoa is Garrett a former video game champion, now a failing video game store owner. Sebastien Hansen is Henry, the very imaginative young teenager. The perfect target to be ridiculed by other teenagers in his new school.
Transition from game to the big screen
We can’t hide the fact that video game players are very critical of the quality of their video game content when it is carried on the big screen. It is much easier to name failures than successes. Borderlands, Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, big franchises, but also big fiascos. Just like Mario Bros, Minecraft is a game that parents and children share, so the target audience is different, this will possibly be what will save this film.
Final note
I was lucky enough to be sitting with young fans of the game during the screening. It was interesting to see that they quickly recognized the different elements of the game in the movie. This film is funny and colorful, a perfect treat on a rainy April afternoon. The movie is WARM at best, it definitely the younger crowd that will make or break this movie.
