Darkened nostalgia

Alone in the Dark has been available since March 20, but it was possible for players to get a feel of the game by playing the prologue of a few minutes and get them in the mood.

Synopsis

Emily Hartwood receives a letter from her uncle who lives in Derceto Manor. Having no news of him, she hires private detective Edward Carnby and both come to the Manor to visit the uncle in question. Only one small problem, the uncle is missing and nowhere to be found.

A partial trip down memory lane

For the players who played the original version of the 1992 game, the first aspect that we notice is as it was for Final Fantasy VII remake, Thanks to the new technology the graphic rendering update of the characters and the environment is substantial. And just like the new version of this game, remaking it to today’s flavor while keeping everything intact would not have been justification enough for fans to pay the full amount, for just a nice exterior with the same old content.

Who will you choose?

The game begins with a simple choice, played as Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. Which is different from the original, because only Edward Carnby was the available character. He is also the detective, that was the protagonist in the following games.

Frustratingly unhelpful

This game, like many others of the genre, contains several puzzles to solve, one of the major faults of this game and the lack of explanation. The addition of a tutorial, which demonstrates how it is possible to solve the puzzles is necessary. Moreover, nowadays open world games are more and more present, so when we are forced to follow a specific path, this lack of freedom is a highly frustrating.

Final note

For review purposes, the game sessions were completed on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The game is also available for PC Windows. I am all for bringing back some old classic and redoing them, this game however left me LUKEWARM.
