Not Precious at all
Gollum is the most recent game in the world of the Lors of the Rings, it is available since May 25th. The previous game did have success, but this one just ended the streak, which prove thatusing a franchise is not a garantie of quality.
Synopsis
This game is more narration of the events following the lost of The Ring as Gollum was outsmarted by Bilbo Baggins. This game follows Gollum steps as he tries to recuperate his Precious from the hobbit.
A path set in stone
In Gollum the player can’t explore all that much, the game’s path is set and the player just needs to follow it. This was one opportunity to explore de vast worlf of J. R. R. Tolkien. From the get go, we can clearly see that the player involvement is that of a spectator. As you try to get away from the Nazgûl, the game shows the player an escape route, only to be captured as the escape is impossible.
Too many cinematics
The game ressemble strangely to the old book You are the hero, the main choices the player gets to make in this game is wether to act as Gollum or Smeagol. So either corrupted by the Ring or the fragile creature who will you end up being, that is the extent of the game.
The lore to the letter
Following the lore to the letter is too much when you get into video game. It is appreciated that the lore is respected, but when it become the driving force of the game and the paying player is only there to push the story forward by pressing buttons when told to is too much. The character had so much potential that the narrative style of this game just overshadowed what could have been.
Finale note
Even for the fans of the Middle-Earth, this game is simply COLD. The game is available on the consoles PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and on PC via Steam and Epic. If you did not already purchase the game I would wait until it is very cheap to free to try it.
