An interview with the voice of Drax
On July 8th at the Montreal ComicCon I had the pleasure to sit down and talk with Jason Cavalier the voice of Drax in the Eidos Montreal game Guardians of the Galaxy. This multi-talented artist explained the process that went in the creating the voice that we get in the video game. But to reach the final product many hurdles had to be overcome.
First there was the interview, where they had to read a few line of the script, of course it was given a bogus name, so they would not know, but who had to play Groot could really tell. after the interview they had to wait about 2 months before they were to do a few more line to see if they would get approval from Marvel. The studio wanted a group that sounded like they were a team, and that emotion could only be done by voice acting.
To get the words to come out quickly, regardless of the situation. Jason explained that he used an old theater trick, which is to bite on a cork while reading your lines, this forces your jaw muscles and makes them help you pronounce very fast. He also look into actor or characters that would be very factual when saying things and his inspiration was Little John as interpreted by Alan Hale, in the old Errol Flynn Robin Hood and Leonard Nimoy’s Mr. Spock.
When asked if there were talks about a sequel, Jason was honest and said that he was not aware of one but would take that challenge head on.
