The first sign of Spring
Nothing announces Spring better then the call of “Play Ball”, and the sound of a baseball being knockout of the park by a bat, next best things as to be the release of MLB The Show by the San Diego Studio for Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Every year I look forward to the new version of MLB The Show, and this year was a little more exciting, not only was it available on more than the PlayStation consoles, but it was also available on the other mainstream consoles, so far nothing to be excited about, so MLB The Show was no longer exclusive to PS4 and PS5 owners. Like last year the game was also available for Xbox One and Xbox Series console owners, but this year the Nintendo Switch was added to the mix. Again nothing to be ecstatic about. What about cross-platform competition? it has it as well, but then again nothing major. What really did it for me this year is the cross-platform progression, now that is mind blowing.
I did the test by created an account on The Show and linking my console accounts to it, then I started a Road to The Show career and played a few games, Once the games were done from the setting I uploaded to the cloud, close the game and turned off the PS5, I then turned on the Xbox Series X and started the MTL The Show 22 game on it, selected the Road to The Show and was able to download from the cloud my progression, again played a few games and uploaded to the cloud one done. When I turned on the PS5 and loaded MLB The Show 22, once I opened The Road to The Show I was able to upload the latest save or used the one that was already on the console. I repeated it a few time, and it never failed.
MLB The Show 22, just opened a path that will be followed by many I hope. Being able to continue a game progression from a cloud save regardless of the system being used is simply one of the best news in the world of gaming. Like many I have multiple consoles and not all in the same location, therefore being able to continue where I have left the game is just great.
This new features put the game as a 5 Alarm Fire for me. Even if you are not a big video sports game fan, this is reason enough to be excited. For review purpose, the test were done on a PlayStastion 5 and a Xbox Series X console, The copies of the game were provided by Sony Interactive Entertainment Canada. The game is available since April 5th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
