The non-virtual differences
I have been an owner of the PSVR since October 13th 2016 and I have enjoyed it tremendously ever since it was added to my Playstation gaming setup. In the last few months I noticed that the games were experiencing some tracking issues until last week where I got the message to connect the Playstation camera. I verified all of the connections, making certain that one had not come undone while cleaning, unplugged and plugged the camera again with the same message. I looked at the local shop to replace the camera and to my surprised everywhere I looked they were all out of stock. Needing the PSVR setup to be fully functional for an upcoming game review, therefore I decided to invest in a fully new PSVR bundle.
With the proclamation from Sony that the PSVR peripherals would be compatible with the new upcoming PS5, the investment was worth it, but when I opened the box I was surprised how different the version 2 of the PSVR was compared to the version 1. Let me start with the physical difference, before the cable used to run down the back of the visor to the power, volume and headset jack, now the cable is straight from the visor to the control box, the power button, volume and headphone jack are all incorporated into the visor, plus the addition of the ear buds receptacles on either side of the visor such a great addition. the visor feels also smaller and less heavy, the gaming session can last longer than before.
On the technical side the camera is more receptive to light, on version 1, I mostly needed to play in a darken room or risk the chance of losing some tracking, with the version 2, I can play in a fully lit room with no tracking issue noted. I am still using the original move controllers from version 1, even if they would be jittery before, with the new camera, I have experienced no issue. The visor also is more receptive, the head movement is correctly detected, and the lenses inside are not as bulky as the previous version and are slightly further out allowing to wear glasses comfortably now. With the headphones directly attached to the visor their cord is also no longer in the way. The cable from the visor in version 1 was short and connected to a box which in turn became a double thicker wire that made moving less comfortable. The move controller from version 1 and version are almost identical, except for a few cosmetic change, technically they are equals.
I enjoyed my PSVR from day one and with the technical improvement and aesthetically more appealing of the latest version I can honestly say that a lot of thinking was put into it and it is definitely worth the money spent on more than just replacing the defective camera.
After hours on the new PSVR, this version is a 5 Alarm Fire
