Undying love
The Bride will be in theaters as of March 6th, this movie should have released in mid February as it would have been the perfect Valentine’s Day movie night for couples.
Synopsis
Feeling lonely after many years Frankenstein heads to Chicago in the 1930’s to meet Dr. Euphronius, another scientist that can make the dead living again. And this time the monster is looking for companionship. What follows shows that love is not just skin deep.
A family affair
Written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, she will be joined in this venture by her husband, Peter Sarsgaard who plays the police detective looking for the monsters, and by her brother Jake Gyllenhaal who plays the movie actor Ronnie Reed.
Old story, new twist
The monstrous companionship of the Frankenstein creature is not something new, but this version is more modern and wants to break away from the stereotype and position of male over female. Just by the title, it is The Bride and not The Bride of Frankenstein. We also have Myrna Mallow played by Penélope Cruz, who, as the assistant to the detective, will earn his respect and will get her own detective badge. The interpretation of the Frankenstein monster by Christian Bale is fresh. Without making a totally new character, the survival instinct and the hobo way of life, showed that he learned what to do to stay hidden in modern society. Jessie Buckley as the bride, what a pleasure to look at, the strength and the rage that inhabits her is very well shared with the audience.
Finale notes
The Bride Will not please everyone, either for the few musical events or the empowered female character. For me it was nice to see that a classic can be recreated while adding to it and make it modern.
