Warner Bros. – Supergirl

Do not get Lobotomize

Supergirl from DC Studios is in theaters since June 26th. It is the second full feature film of Supergirl and nothing like the first one of 1984 or the TV series of the CW.

Synopsis

Kara Zor-El is bar hoping in the illusion of celebrating her birthday, but the reality will hit hard when Krypto is drugged with a toxin that slowly will paralyze it to death. She will have to join forces with a young girl set on revenge for her family’s death at the hand of the same space bandit that poison Krypto.

Introduction

In addition to some background story of Supergirl that explain her mind set, the audience will get to see the bounty hunter Lobo played by actor Jason Momoa. This role is more fitting the personality of Jason than Aquaman, in my opinion.

Déjà vu

If you feel that the story seems familiar, it does have a certain John Wicks feel to it. The lesson to take away from this movie, if you are about to hurt someone’s dog think twice. But it does not stop there, there are some many elements that feels like they were copied from the Guadians of the Galaxy, including Kara Zor-El ship.

Darker

This Supergirl is nothing like the TV Series of the 1984 movie, she is not innocent nor childish. She has a darker sense to her as she lived the destruction of Krypton and the creation of Argos city where she was raised until she was sent to Earth as it would not sustain her for long. The representation of her grief and the need to numb the pain is well represented and explains well her state of mind. This is not a happy go lucky Supergirl and is more respectful to the comic book character.

Final Note

Supergirl is the darker side of James Gunn DC Studios universe, it does have some humour but it is not bright and colourful as the Superman movie, and the few scenes where the two are present shows that difference. Supergirl is as WARM as a summer day sun.
