Subburban Jurassic
The End of Oak Street the movie is coming to theaters on August 14th. Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, it is a hrowback to the 80’s.
Synopsis
The Platt family is in crisis, the eldest daughter is about to go to college, the teenage boy is testing the limit of the parents authority. For Greg and Denise, they are having couple issues. But that is the least of their worries, when they wake up one morning and their neighborhood was somehow transported to the jurassic era. Now the goal is to work together and survive.
Cast
Can Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor make this family beleivable. The relationship looks and feel genuine, it is not forced. The rift within the couple seems real and the screaming behind closed door is well portrayed. Maisy Stella as Audrey Platt and Christian Convery as the son, Brian, make that family whole and you want to cheer for them as they struggle to survive in this new environment. But the best character is definetly Mel Jacobs, the annoying neighbor that everyone has, played by P. J. Byrne.
Seen before, yet different
The dinosaurs in movies is not something new, there has been too many Jurassic movies to say othewise, yet the radaptation of the creatures from millions of years is very different in this movie, almost as if the writer want to show a certain evolution of the dinosaurs. Wether it is the use of fur, feathers, the representation of the Jurassic monsters is different which makes that movie even more seperate from what was done before.
Not for the kids
The End of Oak Street, is violent and some scenes are very graphic, even if your kids are dinosaur fans, I would watch the movie first before, and then decide if they can watch it.
Finale note
The End of Oak Street, is a wild and crazy ride, this use of Jurassic era monsters is well done enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. That is, as long as you don’t mond the blood.
