Warner Bros – Mortal Kombat II

It’s showtime!

Mortal Kombat II to hit the cinema as of May 8th, will bring the eternal clash back to the big screen. It is the sequel to the 2021 movie of the franchise with the same director Simon McQuoid.

Synopsis

Luke Cage is a martial arts film actor that sees a decline in his  popularity. After an unsuccessful convention, he is packing his car when he is approached by Sonya Blade and Lord Raiden,. They inform him that he has been chosen as a champion for the Earth in the Mortal Kombat championship. He is to join forces with Jax Briggs, Cole Young and Lui Kang to defeat the forces of  Shao Khan. The fate of the Earth is in their hands.

Video game feel

Yes the movie is based on the popular video game and the character used for the movie are very close to the ones from the game. Even the famous line “finish him” is uttered early in the movie. It is so close to the video game that it almost feels like a fan service, where movie goers that aren’t fan of the game, may loose interest.

A touch of The Boys

Yes like the tv series The Boys, that movie is brutal and graphically violent. That could be why Karl Urban looks like he feels at home in this movie. His hero path is predictable yet enjoyable enough to look pass the dead moments.

Final notes

Mortal Kombat II, if you enjoyed the first one this one is the same, many action scene and martial arts fights, yes there is a lot of CGI, but it is used properly. I don’t think I would say that the movie is cold as Sub-Zero but it is also not calling you to “Get over here” à la Scorpion.
